Paranormal Activity 4

It feels like it was yesterday when I saw the first installment of this now very popular franchise, I really screamed that time. The first one was a surprise; nobody expected a low budget movie like this to get the attention that it got. It was scary in a more sutile kind of way with a few “out of breath scares”. We now know that the grandmother of Katie and Kristi made a pact with some sort of demon/evil spirit and she was member of an ancient, but very scary covenant in which male first borns were offered to this demon/spirit. In the first and second movie we see the two, now grown up sisters, trying to fight this thing with no success at all, finally posessed Katie  takes little Hunter and their whereabouts are completely unknown. This movie is not a prequel to the first one but actually takes place in another town, 5 years later after Katie and Hunter went missing. It documents the every day life of a regular family, mom, dad, Alex the teenage daughter and Wyatt an outgoing cute 6 year old boy. They have a weird neighbor, Robbie , a boy that lives across the street and he is always by himself because her single mom has to work. One day Holly( Alex´s mom) offers to take care of Robbie because his mom is in the hospital and he has no one else. Strange, spooky things begin to happen in this house and Alex with the help of her friend/boyfriend Ben will use every computer (bidg advertisement for mac), the xbox kinect and their cell phones to document this phenomena. If you have seen Paranormal 1, 2 & 3 you should know what kind of ending is awaiting for you. I liked it better that the third one but I still think the best one is number two. Now with this plot line they can definitely expand the franchise and it can go on and on forever. I hope they do give us satisfying ending soon enough because I am getting tired of this neverending crap. Still, I think is better that most of the other horror productions that are out there. Don’t get me wrong, I give the appearance of been tough but yesterday night when I was trying to go to sleep all I could think about was this freaking movie, and I scared myself pretty bad, that is why this movie is “theatre worthy” or at least watch it in the middle of the night, say 12 am or 1 am and let’s see how tough you really are. Honestly, where do they get this creepy looking kinds?

Taken 2

Age is just a number, at leat that’s what I think when I think about Liam Neeson. He managed the unthinkable, having a successful action-hero career after 40. He is not the youngest but according to movies like this, he is the deadliest for sure. I love this kind of movies, action packed and entertaining. as hell. The movie starts almost when the last one ended. Kim (Maggie Grace) is trying to recover from the trauma of been kidnapped and Murad played by Rade Serbedzija (is like there is no other role this actor can play, always a mobster or a terrorist, preferably from Eastern Europe) is the father of Neeson’s latest casualty. The Albanian father is on his quest to make Liam pay for the death of his beloved little monster. Bryan is in Istanbul finishing a job when Kim and Lenore decide to join him. Bryan’s ex-wife is feeling particularly vulnerable because her marriage has taken a turn for the worst and Liam is the perfect shoulder to cry on. While Lenore and Bryan are site-seeing they quickly realize that they are been followed and managed to get capture (despite Neeson´s best attempts to kill everyone) while her daughter is enjoying the pool and skyping with the new boyfriend. An almost fantastic, bearly believable series of events orchestrated by his daughter gets Liam freed and he will stop at nothing to get his wife alive and kill a few Albanians in the way. I liked it, even though it is almost impossible to believe the whole plot, one can only hope to have a father and a partner as devoted and focused as Liam in this movie, definitely nothing will scare teenage boys more that this concerned parent. On a side note, Famke Janssen (Lenore in the movie) should really spread her wings a little bit more, seems that everytime I see her in a movie she is playing the role of the same concerned weak wife, enough is enough! Get yourself another agent, you can do more woman, remember the X-Men franchise! Anyway, definetely “theatre worthy” especially if you have some popcorn and good company.
